Your Plan for Success at HFMA 2019

See you at HFMA 2019!

Planning to attend HFMA 2019? It’s an important event you don’t wanna miss!

Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) is the nation's premier membership organization for healthcare finance leaders.

Its annual conference, HFMA 2019, is the go-to event for inspiring real conversations and connecting a community of over 2,500 leaders focused on improving the business of healthcare.

These like-minded executives from all over the country lead and manage healthcare finance.

At this event, they gather to be inspired, to take action, and to obtain the tools needed to lead change and transformation within the industry.

This year the conference is taking place in Orlando, Florida from June 23-26. It offers three strategy-focused general sessions, more than 50 best practice breakout sessions, and four focused cohorts over the course of the three days.

There are several learning pathways available.

Each pathway outlines the breakout sessions that will share insight into a specific aspect of the healthcare finance business and opportunities to meet other inspiring leaders. HFMA 2019 is a productive learning & networking experience, and we’ve been there from the beginning.

That’s why we can bring you the top 10 things to do at HFMA 2019.

#1 - Carry a pen & notebook

Valuable information will be everywhere!

You’re more likely to retain information and remember specific details if you write them down. You’ll want to take note of important information from sessions, names of people you network with, and vendor info to review once the event is over.

Don’t find yourself unequipped—come prepared.

#2 - Check out the Hot Topics in Accounting & Audit sessions

Part 1 - Hot Topics in Accounting & Auditing & Part 2 - Accounting & Audit Update: Revenue Recognition Standard and Implementation

These are sessions you don’t want to miss.

They’ll provide an overview of current and new financial reporting requirements from various groups, including recent actions from GASB and FASB.

Additionally, they’ll explore impacts on your financial reporting and review the latest HFMA Principles & Practices (P&P) Board discussions and actions. The objectives for these sessions include identifying recently issued FASB & GASB standards (such as FASB 842) and guidance for implementation.

The speakers will also define key concepts related to exposure drafts and other accounting/auditing projects. They’ll dive into impacts of the recent requirements on financial reports.

And that’s just Part 1!

Although Part 2 details haven’t even been released yet, you can still sign up for it along with the preceding session.

#3 - Attend a first time guest meetup

If this is your first time attending the HFMA Annual Conference, join other newbies for an informal meet and greet hosted by HFMA.

The HFMA team will walk you through the ins and outs of everything there is to know about this year’s conference—including all of the events, activities, mobile app, and other resources.

Not only will this meetup help you explore educational opportunities at the event, but it will help you kickstart expanding your business and social network.

#4 - Say yes to matchmaking (and score free conference registration)

HFMA offers a matchmaking program called Executive Connections.

But rather than pairing you with your potential life mate, this program connects you to the solution providers you're interested in learning more about.

There are specific qualifications to apply for this program.

If you qualify and agree to participate in eight, 15-minute sessions, you’ll receive complimentary HFMA 2019 registration—more than $1,100 in savings!

#5 - Don’t miss out on complimentary breakfast every morning

HFMA offers complimentary morning “Grab & Go Bites” in the HFMA Central room Day 2 and 3 of the conference.

Whether you “grab and go” or sit and network over breakfast, be sure to get there early so you don’t miss these delicious bites. They’ll give you the energy and sustenance you need to make it through a long day of networking and learning.

#6 - Take advantage of all that Orlando’s food scene has to offer via Bite30

Bite30 is a 30-Day Restaurant Week, featuring the best local restaurants and chefs driving Orlando's culinary scene. And lucky for you, it just happens to fall during the HFMA 2019 conference.

Participating restaurants in the area offer a pre-fixed menu of multi-course dinners at $30 per dinner.

Quite a steal! Bite30 is a great option for enjoying Orlando’s foodie scene, especially if you’re networking over a meal.

For more information, visit its website. Then go experience delicious food, service, and ambience at Orlando’s best restaurants.

#7 - Take short breaks at HFMA 2019

While there’s so much learning and networking to be done at HFMA 2019, it’s also important to let yourself rest and decompress.

Schedule in several time slots throughout the day when you’re off your feet and not focused on learning, working, or networking.

This will help you refocus and refresh.

Taking a set amount of time away from intense learning or specific tasks is crucial for allowing your brain to avoid information overload. Practice this balance of productivity and rest to allow yourself to turn off and replenish your energy for the rest of the day’s activities.

#8 - Plan your playtime

If you plan exactly which events you want to be present for, you can use your off time to explore the city, eat at any of the Bite30 restaurants mentioned before, or even work in time to play at a nearby theme park.

Orlando has many of the best and well-known theme park attractions in the United States.

There’s Disney World—a magical wonderland, favorite of kids and adults alike. Universal Studios—more adult-themed rides, a water park, and of course, Harry Potter World. And SeaWorld—for all those marine-animal lovers out there.

You may even be eligible for discounted theme park tickets through your company. Many companies offer their own discounts or receive discounts through Tickets at Work.

When you plan out your itinerary, based on the most important sessions for you, you’re able to maximize your time to enjoy all that the conference and city has to offer.

#9 - Pick up as much information as possible

Grab it all - pamphlets, flyers, handouts, business cards, etc.

That way you don’t have to remember everything or write it all down quickly, potentially missing important info.

Use your pen and paper to supplement any resources that have already been printed and are available to you. This will allow you more time to be presently listening in sessions and forming new professional relationships.

Additionally, you’ll have a resource to help you reflect on your conference experience once you return home.

Consider carrying a bag with you to place all of your collected materials in so you don’t have to worry about loose papers. This will also keep them organized so you can go back and review who you talked to and what you learned after the conference is over.

#10 - Visit us at the AMTdirect booth #934

Make sure to stop by and check out our booth at the conference.

We’ll have all sorts of fun things going on at our booth this year, including goodies to take with you.

You’re going to love our candy bar, where you can create a take-along bag of all your favorite candies. We’ll also be giving away swag to beat the heat in the hot Orlando sun.

Our lease accounting experts will be on hand to take you through a tour of our software. Best part is, you can pre-schedule your demo to earn a $25 Amazon gift card.

Conclusion: HFMA 2019 is the place to be—don’t miss out!

Using our guide and the HFMA 2019 website, you’re set for a successful time at the annual conference.

Whether it’s your first time, or you’ve attended every year, there’s always more to learn, more people to meet, and more opportunities to be inspired to lead change and transformation within the business and finance of healthcare.
